Partnering with the Calgary Zoo

Chelsie Anderson, Garden Expert

By Chelsie Anderson

We knew right from the start that the Calgary Zoo would be the perfect partner for us for our upcoming programming Grow Food Calgary.

“We grow lots of the food we serve at the restaurants here, and we are always trying to do more” said Noelle Green. “We also compost all of the animal waste and food scraps and use the finished product on the the gardens throughout the Zoo”.

What else did we need to know as event organizers? The theatre size and style, and the fact that all participants will get free entry onto Zoo grounds and we were sold!

We know you will enjoy the beautiful Karsten Discovery Theatre with its plush chairs. “Everyone gets a good seat,” pointed out Co-Founder of Grow Food Calgary, Shelley Goldbeck.

With the theatre being right across from the penguin exhibit it will be a unique environment to explore during breaks and after the day’s programming. Some participants plan to meet with their families after their classes to explore the grounds.

We are looking forward to some of our participants winning free Calgary Zoo garden tours followed by a meal cooked with locally grown produce.

We are grateful for, and looking forward to this partnership with the Zoo, and I hope you will too!
